Ethics & Standards
The 99 follows these standards on every story.
Accuracy and sourcing
We publish facts from sources we have read ourselves, mainly government agencies, public programs, schools, utilities and established news outlets. Every story lists and links its sources. We do not publish claims from anonymous sources.
Independence
The 99 is non-partisan. We do not endorse candidates, parties or ballot measures. Sponsorships are labeled "Sponsored / Patrocinado," and sponsors have no say over our coverage. We do not accept sponsorships from payday lenders, gambling businesses or political campaigns.
Privacy and harm
We do not name minors, and we do not name victims unless authorities have released their names.
Photos
We use photos only when we have the right to use them, and we credit them. We do not use computer-generated images of real people, places or events.
Spanish translations
Spanish versions match the English story. Names, addresses, phone numbers and dates are the same in both.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. See our corrections policy.
