Fresno police are investigating after gunfire damaged two businesses in the Tower District early Sunday, Oct. 25, ABC30 reported.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired around 2:24 a.m. near Fulton Street and Dennett Avenue, about one block south of the Tower Theatre. Officers who were already nearby heard the shots and found several shell casings on Dennett Avenue west of Fulton Street. No injuries were reported.
Police told ABC30 a music video was being filmed in the area. According to police, several people who were turned away left, fired multiple rounds and drove off. Security video obtained by the station shows at least 10 rounds being fired.
The owner of a nail studio on Dennett Avenue found a bullet hole in a wall and a bullet on the floor Sunday morning. Around the corner on Fulton Street, another business had a window boarded up. Police said a first review shows the people involved had no connection to the businesses along Olive Avenue.
The new safety plan
The shooting came on the first weekend of a city safety plan announced after an Oct. 18 shooting near Olive Avenue and Broadway that injured two people, including a bystander waiting in line outside a nightclub. Police arrested a 16-year-old in that case.
The plan includes more foot patrols, pickup and drop-off zones along Olive Avenue, brighter street lighting and moving food vendors to a designated area, ABC30 reported. The Fresno Bee reported the city is also adding mobile lighting and cameras at four locations and posting officers outside three Olive Avenue businesses Thursday through Sunday nights.
